Holy Week: A Modern Woman’s Walk with Christ
Holy Week is more than just a historical retelling of Jesus’ final days—it’s a sacred invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the core of our faith. As modern women juggling careers, dreams, relationships, and personal growth, we can let this week shape us deeply. Each day has something to say about who we are becoming. I wasn’t raised Christian. Far from it. I had never heard of Holy Week before. I knew the basics of Easter and even then I had never heard the whole story. I decided that this year, as a part of my becoming Christian journey, I would not only learn myself, but share what I learn and how it can be applied to this beautiful journey called life.
This guide breaks down Holy Week, day by day, in a short introduction with Scriptures to read and thoughts to carry into your own life. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about drawing closer to the One who is.
Palm Sunday – The Beginning of the End, or the Start of Something Greater?
📖 Scripture Reading: Matthew 21:1–11, John 12:12–19
Jesus rides into Jerusalem and is welcomed like a king. But the crowd that praises Him now will soon turn on Him. They expect a political hero, but He comes in peace, fulfilling prophecy and pointing to a deeper kind of salvation. It’s a moment of glory—but also the start of the path to the cross. Even as He’s celebrated, Jesus knows the cost of obedience is coming.
✨ Reflect: Where in your life are you riding on the highs of approval, but afraid of the fall that might follow? What does it mean to choose obedience over popularity?
📝 Prayer Prompt: Lord, help me be steady in my walk with You, even when my world shifts.
Monday – Flipping Tables & Clearing Space
📖 Scripture Reading: Matthew 21:12–17, Mark 11:15–18
Jesus walks into the temple and finds corruption where there should be worship. He flips the tables of the money changers, boldly challenging the systems profiting off faith. This moment isn’t about anger—it’s about restoration. He’s making space for honest connection with God, calling us to do the same in our own hearts.
✨ Reflect: What needs to be cleared out of your life—your schedule, your mind, your heart—to make more room for God?
📝 Prayer Prompt: Lord, cleanse my life of what distracts me from Your presence. I want to make space for what truly matters.
Tuesday – Challenged & Questioned
📖 Scripture Reading: Matthew 21:23–46, Matthew 22:15–46
Jesus faces questions from religious leaders trying to trap Him. His wisdom, courage, and clarity shine. Religious leaders try to trap Jesus with questions, but He responds with wisdom and parables that reveal the kingdom of God. He teaches boldly in public, exposing hypocrisy and calling people to repentance. Tuesday is a day of confrontation—but also clarity. It reminds us that standing in truth requires courage, even when it’s uncomfortable.
✨ Reflect: How do you respond when your faith is challenged—by others or even your own doubts? Are you willing to seek truth even when it’s uncomfortable?
📝 Prayer Prompt: Lord, give me the confidence to stand in truth and the humility to seek wisdom when I don’t understand.
Wednesday – The Quiet Before the Storm
📖 Scripture Reading: Matthew 26:6–16, John 12:1–8
A woman anoints Jesus with expensive oil, pouring out her love in a quiet act of devotion. At the same time, Judas secretly agrees to betray Jesus for money. It’s a day of contrasts—intimate worship and hidden betrayal. This tension invites us to ask: Where am I honoring Jesus with my life, and where might I be compromising?
✨ Reflect: This day reminds us of contrasts—sacrifice and betrayal, devotion and deception. Where are you giving Jesus your best? Where might you be holding back?
📝 Prayer Prompt: Lord, help me choose devotion over distraction. Let my life be a fragrance that honors You.
Thursday – The Last Supper & Deep Love
📖 Scripture Reading: John 13, Matthew 26:17–75
Jesus shares His final meal with His disciples, washes their feet, and gives them a new command: love one another as I have loved you. He speaks of betrayal and denial, yet still chooses grace. That night in the garden, He prays in agony, surrendering to God’s will. Thursday is full of emotion—friendship, love, grief, and surrender.
✨ Reflect: What does servant-hearted love look like in your world today? How can you practice humility and compassion—even when it’s hard?
📝 Prayer Prompt: Jesus, help me to love like You do—with boldness, humility, and grace.
Friday – The Cross
📖 Scripture Reading: John 18–19, Luke 23
Jesus is arrested, falsely accused, beaten, and nailed to a cross. He suffers and dies, willingly taking on the weight of the world’s sin. Yet even in His final breaths, He offers forgiveness and speaks hope to a dying thief. Good Friday is the darkest day—and the most beautiful, because love gave everything to set us free.
✨ Reflect: Jesus took on death so you could walk in freedom. What part of your old self needs to be laid down at the cross? What’s dying so something better can rise?
📝 Prayer Prompt: Jesus, thank You for taking my place. Help me live in light of Your love and never take Your sacrifice for granted.
Saturday – The Silence
📖 Scripture Reading: Matthew 27:57–66
Jesus is buried, and the world feels still and empty. For His followers, it was a day of confusion, grief, and waiting. Saturday represents the in-between—the space between promise and fulfillment. It’s a reminder that God is still working in the silence, even when we don’t understand the timing.
✨ Reflect: Are you in a season of “Saturday”? A waiting season, a quiet space between the prayer and the promise? Remember: God does His best work in the waiting.
📝 Prayer Prompt: Lord, help me trust You in the silence. Even when I don’t see movement, I believe You are working.
Sunday – Resurrection & Renewal
📖 Scripture Reading: Matthew 28, John 20
He is risen! Jesus defeats death and steps out of the grave, offering us eternal life and unshakable hope. The resurrection changes everything—it’s the turning point of history and the foundation of our faith. With the stone rolled away, we are invited into new life, new joy, and a love that never ends.
✨ Reflect: What in your life needs resurrection? What’s been buried that God wants to bring back to life—your joy, your passion, your faith?
📝 Prayer Prompt: Jesus, You are alive—and because of that, I have new life. Renew me, restore me, and make me bold in living out Your resurrection power.
