Why You Should Stop Asking for an Easier Life
Why We Shouldn’t Ask for Fewer Challenges
We all love the mountaintop moments—the peaceful seasons, the wins, the joy that flows easily. But the truth is, the woman God is building in you is not formed on the mountaintop. She’s built in the valleys, shaped in the pressure, and strengthened through the storm.
Sometimes we find ourselves praying for the hard things to be removed. We ask God for fewer challenges, for an easier way. But what if the challenge isn’t a punishment—it’s preparation?
Struggle Isn’t the Enemy—Stagnation Is
Growth doesn’t happen in ease. It happens in resistance. The same way our muscles grow stronger with weights, our faith grows deeper through trials. Asking for fewer challenges is often asking for fewer opportunities to become who God is calling you to be.
“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
—Romans 5:3-4
When we lean into difficulty instead of running from it, we get to witness God refine us. We become more patient, more compassionate, more dependent on His strength instead of our own.
Faith in the Fire
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego weren’t delivered from the fire—they were delivered in it. God didn’t remove the challenge. He revealed Himself inside of it.
“When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
—Isaiah 43:2
Sometimes we’re praying, “God, take it away,” but He’s saying, “My daughter, I’m using it.” He’s not trying to break you. He’s trying to build you.
The Devotional Thought: Don’t Wish It Away
There’s a version of you that only exists on the other side of what you’re walking through right now. Don’t wish it away. Let it teach you. Let it dig your roots deeper in Christ. Let it cleanse you of pride, of self-reliance, of doubt.
You are not alone in the fire. The One who commands the winds and waves walks with you through it.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for trusting me with the weight You’ve allowed in this season. Even when I feel tired, even when I don’t understand, help me trust that You are working through every trial to shape me into the woman You designed me to be.
Give me a heart that leans in instead of pulling away. Remind me that my help comes from You. I don’t need an easier path—I need a stronger faith.
Use this challenge to refine me. Grow my endurance. Grow my compassion. And grow my confidence in You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Scriptures to Stand On
- James 1:2-4
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” - 2 Corinthians 4:17
“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” - Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Final Thoughts
Instead of asking, “Why me?” start asking, “What are You doing through this, Lord?”
Every challenge has a purpose. Every hardship has a lesson. And every storm carries seeds of strength.
May we stop begging for ease, and instead become the kind of women who grow stronger through the hard things—by the grace of God.
